Writing about the Transfer Station

Yesterday the children looked at a number of photos from our Trip last Thursday to the Transfer Station in Henderson. We used these photos as inspiration for our Shared Writing session.
Here are a few of the sentences we created.
Each of the children got to chose a photo and create an individual piece of writing.
If you'd like to see more check out our writing books!

Cross-Country

On Tuesday we had our Cross-country.
The children ran around the field, around the back of the old dentist building up towards the back car park, along the path to the end of the car park, then back through the car park round past the Junior playground, beside the garden and back past the middle playground to the field to finish.

Denziel came in 8th, which was the highest rating in the class, so good on you Denziel.

Here are a few pictures of the children running through to the finish line.

Look at this red face, I couldn't resist a picture to show how hard he had worked at the race -good on you!!!!

Dig Deep or Donate!!!

Just a reminder parents about the Dig in or Donate event that is coming up on June the 19th.

Arahoe Arbour Day
In June it is national arbour day, a day to inspire people to nurture the environment and plant native trees. In recognition of this we will be planting native trees into the banks surrounding the school fields.
What is Dig Deep or Donate?
The term Dig Deep means dig a deep hole in the school bank, donate is giving you the option as a parent to donate your very own native tree to plant on the school bank.
Arahoe Primary has been donated 50 native trees for Arbour Day, we need your help along with your child/children to dig the trees into the school bank. Bring along your spade at 9am on the 19th of June on the school field to help us plant the trees.

Due to only having 50 native trees that have been donated please let Dana Turner danat@arahoe.school.nzknow if you would like to come and dig a tree in. Alternatively you can bring along your own native tree to dig into the school bank, every donated or dug in tree will receive an eco-name tag. The trees we would like to be donated are Kanuka, Karaka, Kowhai, Lacebark, Pittosporum or Pohutakawa.
Who: You and your children and two local New Zealand comedians Dai Henwood and Uzila Carlson will be joining us for the event.
When: 19th of June 9am School Field – after the roll has been called, come on down with your child
What: bring your children, gumboots and spade and a few coins as PSG will be there selling eco friendly cakes, biscuits, tea, milo and coffee.

Look forward to seeing you on the 19th.

Kia Ora everyone and welcome to Term

2!

In Room 22 we are very excited about the changes to our learning programme this term. In the mornings we would love to encourage you to come inside and read with your child before school. It’s a great way to give them some extra reading mileage and have some special time before the school day starts. Also from Monday to Thursday we will be sending home readers like normal but the children will also be bringing home an extra book to read each night from their pick boxes.

Swimming has officially stopped and will restart early Term 4.

Just a reminder that our library day is still Wednesday from 11:15-11:50. The children can issue one book at a time and are welcome to change it in their lunchtimes and before or after school!

In week 3 we have our trip to the Henderson Transfer Station (Thursday 22nd May) and an Art workshop with Graham Dodd (Friday 16th May)! If you haven’t already brought your child’s permission slip and money in could you please do so as soon as possible.  We also need lots of parent help so don’t be shy!!! It’s going to be a fantastic trip.

To keep up to date with upcoming events please check the school calendar on the Arahoe school website.

Our Topic theme for Term 2 is Sustainability and we will be learning all about Wriggly, Squiggly Worms! Keep watching the blog to get regular updates.

One way parents can get involved is with our Dig Deep or Donate campaign!

Dig Deep:  We have a collection of native trees that have been donated to our school and we would love your help to plant them.
Donate:  You can also donate native plants if you wish, and can plant it yourself.  All donated plants will get a tag as pictured.

The first 50 registrations will receive one native tree to dig into the grounds.

Dig Deep and Donate!
